How To Treat Drinking Water
Water is essential and of great help to the human body. Doctors encourage people to take at least eight glasses of water in a day. However, it is not all about water consumption rather it's about ensuring that the water we drink is clean. Water can sometimes be contaminated by waste products, human activities like swimming in rivers and using chemicals for farming, releasing untreated sewage to water sources or even by animals. There are several ways that can be used to purify drinking water.
The first one is filtering. This is a simple method of treating water. Filtering can be done by use of a clean, soft cloth that can easily allow water to pass but hold back particles of water contaminants. Filtration can also be done by using wastewater recycling system made of different layers that are composed of sand gravel and charcoal. Clean water will pass through leaving behind waste like chemicals and bacteria. The second method of purifying drinking water is called disinfection. Since filtration mostly removes large particles of waste, we cannot say that water is ready for drinking after filtering we need to disinfect it by use of chemicals to get rid of viruses, germs and harmful chemicals that may have dissolved in water. Chemicals such as chlorine and chloramine are the commonly used for water disinfection.
The other method used to purify drinking water is by use of water softeners. Hard is not healthy for consumption since it may contain minerals that are harmful to our bodies. It may also be having acids or toxins. Thus there are chemicals called water softeners that are added to the hard water. These softeners contain potassium and sodium. These ions displace the magnesium and calcium ions which cause water hardness. Use of distillation systems is the other method that helps in treating drinking water. It is done by heating the contaminated water to the boiling point, and then the vapor is collected in a different container where it condenses as clean water and the waste products are left. Having all the above methods of purifying drinking water, we should all making it a habit of ensuring the water we take is clean and free from waste products this will help us avoid problems that come along with taking contaminated water such as diseases. Water is life, and we should take care of the water sources. Know about drinking water treatment systems here!
